Designed and built by architect Giovanni Candi, Palazzo del Bovolo was created as the residence of the Contarini Family in the XV century. The construction of the spiral staircase, which has now become one of the most beloved parts of this palace, is attributed to Giorgio Spavento who apparently added it in 1499.
This staircase was closed to the public up until February 2016 when, after some restoration work started in August 2015, it became open to visitors.

The palace used to be the property of Domenico Emery in the XIX century and he transformed it into a residence for guests. One of the guests of this palace was Ernst Wilhelm Tempel, who made very important astral discoveries by observing stars from the top of the staircase and palace.
