Santa Severa Castle

Santa Severa Castle is an archeological beauty situated on the Tyrrhenian coast north of Rome. The castle rises on the Etruscan port city of Pyrgi; it was built in the XIV century and little by little a village developed around castle along with the different stages of construction.

The castle carried out several functions all over the years: it was the residence of some important popes such as Urban VIII and during the second world war the Germans established a military post in here. All around Santa Severa Castle there are a number of interesting sites to discover, including many museums and churches as well as the Pyrgi archeological area in which many objects from the Etruscan period were brought to light thanks to the excavation carried out for many years.
