The Vatican Museums are a Museums complex belonging to Vatican City. Pope Julius II founded the museums during the early 16th century and nowadays inside them, thousands of art pieces are preserved here along its 54 galleries plus the Sistine Chapel. Among its most renowned areas we can name Pio Clementine, Egyptian and Etruscan Museums as well as Raphael Rooms, Niccoline Chapel, Borgia Apartments, the Painting Gallery as well as the carriage Pavilion.
The Sculpture of Laocoon and His Sons is said to be the forst artwork to be preserved inside Vatican Museums, right after Pope Julius II purchased it.
